The Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) was founded over 100 years ago and is the UK’s largest and leading trade association representing electrical, electronic installation, engineering and building services companies.
The ECA is recognised by Government, commerce and industry as the authoritative voice of the sector and the ECA is amongst the nation’s best resourced representative associations. The ECA works closely with Government and key national bodies to improve industry standards and procedures. Its comprehensive, progressive and innovative services are highly respected and renowned throughout industry.
The ECA ensures that member companies maintain the highest possible standards of:
ECA registered members must adhere to BS7671:1992 Requirements for Electrical Installations (The Institution of Electrical Engineers [IEE] wiring regulations) and all other standards regulations and codes of practice relevant to the installation. There is also a requirement that their work be regularly assessed and that they employ operatives that are properly qualified for the work being undertaken. These requirements ensure that the highest possible standards of quality and safety are maintained on terms equitable to both client and installer alike.
All installation work will be completed thoroughly and satisfactorily according to relevant standards in the ECA Warranty, the ECA Bond and the ECA Code of Fair Trading. These three important elements cover work compliance, work completion and good customer relations.
If work fails to comply with the relevant standards, the ECA Warranty ensures that it shall be rectified to comply with such standards subject to a maximum limit of £100,000. Subject to the terms and conditions of the scheme the Warranty provides the claimant, at no cost, with an assurance that if any work carried out by an ECA member fails to comply with the Relevant Standards, it shall be rectified at no further expense. The ECA Warranty is valid for a period of six years from completion of the contract.
The ECA Bond provides, subject to the terms and conditions of the Scheme, ECA Members’ customers with an assurance that if their employment as an ECA Member is terminated for a specified reason, such as the insolvency of the business, the additional cost of completion will be met by the ECA’s insurer to a maximum limit of ten per cent (10%) of the contract value, as shown on the certificate, or £100,000 whichever is the lesser.
